What is Remote Home Sleep Testing?
- Sleep diagnostic tests are non-invasive procedures conducted to record and monitor electroencephalogram (EEG) activity of the brain and other organs during sleep to identify the cause of sleep problems.
- At The SleepHealth Clinic, we provide the option of clinic site home sleep testing or remote telehealth home sleep testing. An In-Lab sleep test may also be recommended if initial home-based sleep test indicate the need for further assessment.
- A referral from your GP is required for all sleep study tests.
Remote site home-based sleep test is similar to the clinic site home-based sleep test however, both consultation and sleep study setup are conducted via telehealth with one of our sleep clinicians. This allows patients in remote areas who are unable to attend one of our clinics to have the test.
What happens during consultation?
Similarly, for the clinic site testing during initial consultation, you will be provided with information and demonstration on how to set up your home sleep study device. On the day of your sleep study, a sleep unit will be delivered to your home via courier. Any additional guidance will also be provided to you during the evening via a phone and/or your initial telehealth consultation.
Please note that due to the coronavirus pandemic, remote home testing can be done without an initial consultation and can be included during the night of the test. All guidance will be provided over the phone or via a telehealth during the night of the study if needed.
What happens after the study?
After you have completed your study, you will be asked to remove all sensors and equipment and have them placed back into your carry bag. A courier will then pick up your device the following day in the morning. A report of your results will be available within the next 2-3 weeks where one of our sleep clinicians will contact you to discuss your results over the phone and further treatments if required.
Most patients with sleep apnoea are suitable for a home sleep study and are able to do the test in their own home however, if you are unsure about which sleep study test is best for you, please contact us on 1300 800 357 for further information.
